Best Sunday fun: West Loop Art Market
The art of the West Loop
Patrons of the West Loop Art Market have been known to cut the rug while they listen to up-and-coming local bands performing everything from folk to hip hop in the courtyard at this free event, held on the second Sunday of every month (841 W Randolph).
Not only does the market provide a forum for local bands, its indoor gallery also showcases the original works of local artists in a range of media, from painting to jewlery design, photography and puppetry.
The eclectic arts gallery even entertains some more novel genres. There are the impossibly intricate sand sculptures of Brian Kellner and the impressive "motorcycle fabrications" of Tony D'Amico. D'Amico builds choppers from scratch.
"I'm not sure [if] choppers fit into the art world or not but who cares - even old ladies think they are cool," D'Amico is quoted as saying on the West Loop Art Market's website.
