The Gammonley Group, builder of 1111 Wabash, bought out the Prairie Tower project in the South Loop from Bejco Development. Prairie Tower, 1600 S Prairie Ave, was the last Chicago project under development by Bejco, which lost its River Bend and Prairie House projects to Lehman Bros. in 2003.

Gammonley renamed the 156-unit development at 16th Street and Prairie Avenue Prairie Pointe, and quickly moved sales past the halfway mark. By July 2005, Gammonley reported about 70 percent of the units sold.

Many corner units

The 24-story highrise and adjoining townhouses were designed by DeStefano & Partners. The look is modern, with floor-to-ceiling glass and setbacks that create large number of corner units on each floor. From its perch in the South Loop’s growing Central Station community, the highrise has views of the lake, the city and Soldier Field. Amenities include 24-hour door staff, an entertainment room, a business center / conference room, indoor parking, a fitness center, a sundeck terrace with a Whirlpool, a dry cleaning valet and an adjacent park and dog run.

The units have ceiling heights of nine to 10 feet, hardwood floors in living areas, private balconies or terraces, gas fireplace with marble surrounds, granite countertops, designer 42-inch cabinets and master suites with walk-in closets.

The condos have one to three bedrooms and one to 2.5 baths, while the townhouse units have three bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Prices ranged from the $280s to the $910s in July 2005, when construction was well underway. A sales center is open at 1549 S Indiana Ave.
