The Grand Orleans
Construction well underway at River N. tower
Robin Construction did not break ground on the Grand Orleans, a 21-story River North highrise underway at 330 W Grand Ave, until more than five years after the project was planned and on the market. The condo complex broke ground in 2004 and by summer of 2005, the Grand Orleans was more than 50 percent sold, according to Equity Marketing Services, sales and marketing agent for the development. The concrete building, designed by Pappageorge Haymes, has a stolid, squared feel despite its height, partly because of the imposing seven-story concrete base. In June 2005, remaining condos at the 98-unit project were priced from the $180s to the $630s. The unit mix ranges from convertibles to three-bedrooms, and three unusual condos on the eighth floor have unique floor plans. These homes have two bedrooms, two baths and 1,447 to 1,623 square feet. Two of the three offer terraces of more than 200 square feet, and the third has a 14.5-foot balcony. All of the condos have nine-foot ceiling heights, in-unit washer/dryer hookups, cable hookups, hardwood floors in living areas, granite countertops, General Electric appliances and private outdoor space. The building has a small amount of retail space, a fitness center and 24-hour door staff. Apart from the $42 million Grand Orleans, Robin Construction projects include Carl Sandburg Village and lakefront highrises such as the Carlyle, the Warwick and Imperial Towers.
